Frequently Asked Questions – Dumfries, VA

What Do You Want to Know?

Do you have a question about an upcoming procedure or about our specialty dental office in general? You can always call our team at Oral & Facial Surgery Center of Virginia for help, but to make finding the information you need a bit easier, we’ve listed answers to some of the most frequently asked questions we’ve gotten from our patients.

How Will I Know If Dental Implants are Right for Me?

The best candidates for dental implants:

  • Are already missing at least one tooth
  • Have an adequate amount of bone in their jaws
  • Have healthy gums that are free of infection
  • Have good oral hygiene habits
  • Are willing to stick with a months-long process

We can examine your mouth and discuss your current situation at your next consultation to decide whether you can get implants right away or if you’ll need additional work first.

How Long Will It Take to Get Dental Implants?

The timeline for dental implants depends on several factors, including how many posts need to be placed, whether you need preliminary work done, how fast your mouth heals, and what kind of implant procedure we use. We’ll go over these factors with you and give you an estimated timeline to plan around.

How Much Do Dental Implants Cost?

We can only give you an idea of how much you’ll pay for your implants once we’ve considered various factors like the number of teeth that need to be replaced. When we outline the cost for you, we’ll also discuss your financial options, such as using insurance benefits to pay for portions of the treatment.

Do I Need to Have My Wisdom Teeth Removed?

You might not need to have your wisdom teeth removed if they erupt in their proper positions without causing any problems. An extraction is required, however, if a wisdom tooth becomes impacted or starts to cause serious pain. We can take X-rays to check on your wisdom teeth and determine whether or not it’s better to have them as soon as possible to avoid any issues.

How Long Will It Take to Recover After Wisdom Teeth Extraction?

On average a full recovery can take anywhere from 3 days to a full week. It partly depends on the complexity of the procedure and your body’s healing capabilities, but proper aftercare also makes a difference. Plan on resting for at least a couple of days after the procedure, and don’t eat anything hard or spicy until healing is complete.

Can You Help Me with Facial Wrinkles?

Do You Take My Insurance?
